We are all so busy, busy, busy taking care of work, personal items, and people we care about in our lives. It’s no wonder we carry around tension in our bodies. We may not even be aware of the stress that resides in us.
I lived in New York City for a large part of my life. There are so many people there, tons of traffic, and lots of stimulation throughout the day. To commute in the City, you have to build a wall around what you are experiencing and move forward in your day. I wasn’t aware of the tension, just aware I had to get to work with hundreds of people trying to do the same thing simultaneously.
I moved to North Carolina and started to relinquish the embedded tension in my body. When I visit New York, I immediately experience the tension in my body and have to find ways to release it.
Busyness causes stress in our minds and bodies, and we need to release the tension. So we think:
- I need a vacation
- I need some downtime
- I need some fun
- I need to stop stressing out
These thoughts flow through our minds and don’t necessarily help us release the tension in our bodies.
Mini Relaxation Technique
What if we were to have a mini relaxation throughout your day. What would that be like? Here is an idea that could help you become aware of your current tension levels in your body and release the tension.
Every hour set your timer to go off, stop what you are doing, take three deep breaths, and release your breath slowly.
Then go back to what you are doing.
Try it and see if it helps you be more relaxed and sharper about what you are doing or need to do next.
Your Thoughts
Do you have an active way to release tension throughout the day? Are you aware of the tension in your body?
